How to deal with bad sectors in hard disk

If the bad sectors are initiated due to decrease of magnetization, the impairment is irreversible. However, if the difficulty is due to inconsistencies in parity checking bits, it can be amended by utilizing befitting programs that can rewrite and restore these bits. It comes under the hard disk recovery.

There are two built-in programs that you can use to repair bad sectors. One is the CHKDSK and a more advanced version of it called 'Scandisk’. You can rectify bad sectors by running the computer disk scan program on any Windows operating system like Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7:
  • Open 'My Computer' and right click on drive volume which is suspected to have bad sectors.
  • Click on the properties option and select the 'Tools' tab in the window that opens.
  • Click on 'Check Now' under the 'Error Checking' section.
  • Then comes two check boxes in another window with ‘Automatically fix file system errors' and 'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors'.
  • Select both the options and click on 'Start'. This is done when all the programs running in the operating system are stopped.

Hard disk error message

Have you ever got the message saying ‘cyclic redundancy error found’, if yes then this error message comes due bad sectors that are present in the hard drive of the computer. It mainly comes when we overused and used old hard drive. Till now I think lots of questions comes to your mind, what are these bad sectors, what are their causes, how to fix them and so on.

A bad sector on hard drive is a bodily damaged part which can no longer be accessed by the operating system. When this awful part occurs to be a region where you have retained facts and figures, you get the 'cyclic redundancy error' as the functioning scheme cannot get facts and figures from that district. To check for integrity of written data, parity checking bits are written while storing data on a hard drive. The facts and figures may not be read due to inconsistencies of parity checking bits that are verified while composing and reading facts and figures from a hard disk.

The major cause for bad sectors is a decrease of magnetism of the hard disk surface in certain localities with time. Bad sectors may furthermore be caused by rapid physical shocks to the hard drive, rapid power shutdown and interruption of reading and composing procedures on the computer disk. A failing read-write head of a hard disk is another origin of bad sectors getting conceived. So hard disk repair is the only option left.
